Jan 12:The last two of the 13 Christmas trees I picked up for the MLK bonfire party. There were 84 trees this year.

Jan 12: A Nor'easter blew down lots of trees and knocked out power here for about 12 hours.

No surprise to anyone, the split ash on the property line finally tore off in the storm and is hung up in the other trees.

March 31: The wood frogs came last night. I counted 5 today, all excited and chirping. Yesterday I saw a starling in the maple. It looks like she's planning to nest in there again this year.

June 1: Nope. After checking it out for a few days, the starling pair decided to nest elsewhere.

The pond appears to have recovered from the mud flood. There are many todpoles but I don't know whose. The wood frogs definitely laid many eggs but I don't know about the green frogs and there were no toads this year, however I am seeing more than the average number of baby toads around the property. Last year there was a plethora of baby toads.

June 13: I found this in the brook today, all mangled up.
I banged it back into flat. 1948 plate.
rabbit birdbath
A gift certificate from the Rowland Foundation bought me this lovely birdbath from the Northshire Bookstore.

Luna 07/21/2024 July 18: New kitty sisters Luna and Cleo had just had their first litters, 6 kittens between them. When I took them for their spay on the 23rd, the Vet reported that Cleo was already pregnant but not developed enough to prevent the spay. They are very friendly and accustomed to lots of handling.

Luna disappeared sometime in the night of August 29th, six weeks exactly since the day I adopted her.

So now Cleo is Luna.

popo07282024July 28: Popo was euthanized today. He was in the last stages of renal failure and having gone through that with Chloe and Maus, I didn't want to put him, or myself, through another moment of it. He died purring with me petting him. He lies next to Chloe.
